At Indaver's site in the Waaslandhaven in Doel, Indaver and Veolia are investing heavily in expanding energy production with the construction of E-Wood, a new processing plant for non-recyclable wood waste. The plant processes around 180,000 tonnes of wood waste per year. The energy released is converted into electricity and steam for industry. The wood waste is stored on the 2 ha site under cover and thermally processed using fluidised bed technology. The plant also features intensive flue gas cleaning. As wood waste and wood dust are highly flammable, enormous attention is paid to fire safety. Two precast concrete fire safety buildings were erected on the site, which are connected to all buildings and conveyor belts on the site, as well as to the ring pipeline built around the site and linked to the existing main pipeline of the main sprinkler system. Apart from Cosimco, two other companies from our group were involved in the project with Willemen Infra and De Waal Solid Foundations. Willemen Infra was responsible for the preparatory earthworks, while De Waal placed the foundation piles (prefabricated piles). Through its carbon neutrality, this green energy project contributes to the realisation of the Flemish climate objectives. |
