Bicycle highway Antwerp-Lier - Deurne

The border between Boechout and Mortsel will be receiving the longest country composite bridge: 3,7 kilometres. It is the first bicycle bridge in fiberglass-strong plastic with a free span of 26.6 meter. A scope for the F11 Antwerp-Lier bicycle highway.

The composite bridge of thirty meters long and five meters wide has many advantages thanks to the material: it is light, sturdy and not susceptible to corrosion. The bridges can bare a lifespan of more than a hundred years, they are more flexible and quick to install.

The bridge was build in The Netherlands, the whole process to build the bicycle bridge took only two months to complete the entire bridge. The bridge was transported in one piece during  the night of the 1st of May 2019. The bridge, which weighs approximately 30 tons, was passed over the railway line raised.

The bridge is part of the F11 Antwerp-Lier bicycle highway, to provide a smoother but especially safer route for cyclists.
