Description
In July 2013 the first phase of the new city museum in the Hof van Busleyden in Mechelen was inaugurated in the presence of Mayor Bart Somers. The official opening ceremony was preceded by a cavalcade of children who had taken part in the Museum Camp. For the museum Willemen General Contractor built, among other things, an underground exhibition area of 630 m² and seven metres high. This area has 29 spans, each weighing 26 tons. With this impressive new building, the museum meets the international standards for bringing important collections to the city. The first exhibition held in the new basement was the sixth Contour Biennial of Moving Image.
