Redevelopment of the railway station surroundings - Bruges

The present area around the Bruges station (Sint-Michiels side) is an important intersection for the city's traffic. This busy area had a number of traffic bottlenecks. Consequently, traffic flow was frequently very difficult. Furthermore, there were a number of intersections that were a danger to bicyclists and pedestrians.

Aswebo has been working since the beginning of May 2013 on renovation of the station zone (Temporary Consortium with Artes De Pret). The goal of this redevelopment was to separate the vulnerable road users from motorised traffic. At the same time, traffic flow needed to be improved, with special attention paid to public transport.

Finally, with this work Aswebo wanted to increase the amenities of the station zone. The work was completed in 5 phases with a 2 year deadline. The station, the Bruges city centre and Sint-Michiels remained accessible during each of these phases.

Willemen Infra came into being on 1 July 2018 as a result of the merger between Aswebo, Aannemingen Van Wellen and the infrastructure department of Kumpen and is a leading road builder and asphalt and concrete manufacturer.
