Relaying of N41-E17 and N41-Kettermuitstraat - Sint-Niklaas

Description 

The works were carried out as part of the programme to remove dangerous black spots and road sections.
The Heimolenstraat intersection was redesigned to make it safer for cyclists.
The Kiemerstraat/ N41 intersection was one of the 800 designated danger spots in Flanders. The many accidents here called for drastic measures. The Kiemerstraat was closed to all N41 traffic. On both sides of the N41 it is now a dead end street. The gap in the N41 central reservation has been closed.
The bridge over the E17 received a thorough facelift, with a new road surface, expansion joints, capstones, handrails and protective systems. Attention was also paid to the waterproofing. Concrete repairs were carried out to the bridge from the E17 and the water run-offs were replaced. Finally, there is new public lighting everywhere.
The capacity of the E17 exit towards Ghent was expanded, with two lanes for left-turning and one for right-turning traffic, and lights at the intersection.
The intersection of the N41 with the entrance and exit towards Antwerp was also fitted with lights to improve the flow for left-turning traffic.
The Kettermuit intersection is now equipped with lights, making left turns much safer. To allow cyclists to cross safely they have been given separate lights.
From the intersection with Heimolenstraat to the intersection with the Waasmunsterse Steenweg/Kettermuitstraat, the N41 is now closed to cyclists, with the Heimolenstraat and Kettermuit intersections adjusted to enable cyclists to cross safely to alternative routes.
