The high speed RER suburban rail network around Brussels has three main parts: the Line 50A section between Brussels and Denderleeuw, Line 161 Line Brussels and Ottignies (including the Watermael - Josaphat link) and the portion of Line 124 between Brussels and Nivelles.
It is on the latter section that the Braine-l'Alleud South site began in June 2010. Sébastien Moinet, CCM (MOT): "The site extends over 2.5 km of track. We worked on widening this section to four tracks and making the necessary adjustments to enable the trains to reach speeds of up to 160 km/h. This involves several infrastructure projects, including three bridges (one fly-over and two underpasses) and an underground parking garage." The new parking garage is located beyond the station and is parallel to the track.: "This car park, the excavation work for which was situated on the other side of the station, has 450 places on two underground levels (compared with 500 places and three levels at the Braine-l'Alleud North car park). An underpass has been built on level -1. The car park is 300 m long and 25 m wide. The area around the station was upgraded by TUC Rail in collaboration with Eurogare."

Travelling along the section from the new car park in the direction of Nivelles, we arrive at a first important engineering work: the Rue de la Fosse au Sable fly-over. It has been extended to facilitate the upper road traffic and enlarged to span the four tracks passing under it, and also to enable a new road that is laid under the bridge. Two new abutments have been built against the bridge and support the four new beams. The road still has two traffic lanes but also has two-metre wide pavements. Demolition work on the old bridge was only possible at night.
The bridge over the Rue Longue is a hundred metres or so further along. This is a fly-over situated in an angle to the road that runs below. A little tunnel under the track, once used primarily by tractors, is converted into an underpass for vulnerable road users.
Near the new halt came the last engineering work of the site, the Route de Piraumont underpass (see photo 5). This bridge was also enlarged to allow for four rail tracks and a cycle path. A new road was also be built out from the Route de Piraumont. Passing alongside "Braine-Alliance" and then under the Rue Longue bridge, arriving on the other side of the track under the Rue de la Fosse au Sable bridge, it continues towards the new station car park and the centre of Braine-l'Alleud. In other words, a road running parallel to the railway.  Finally, green walls were built in several locations and we also constructed an overhanging structure to carry a third and a fourth track over a distance of 300 metres.
