Restoration of the Pede railway viaduct: superstructure - Dilbeek

Description

Restoration and doubling of Pede viaduct in Dilbeek.

In the context of construction of the 3rd and 4th tracks between Brussels-South and Sint-Katarina-Lombeek, the railway line was doubled. The viaduct construction is subject to the regulations governing historic buildings and sites The surroundings are classified as biologically valuable.

The project comprised :

  • the expansion as cantilever structure of the existing viaduct, with a track on each side;
  • the superstructure, composed of slender reinforced concrete spans, rests on steel cantilever ‘struts’ that are supported by the original pillars of the monumental viaduct
  • the bridge decks are arched to better accentuate the arched structure. The new structures in steel make it easy to see the difference between the existing structure and the new expansion. The renovation of the existing viaduct: repairs to the arches in historic masonry and to the concrete
  • the required modifications to the overhead lines.

Since 1998 Franki Construct has been part of Willemen Groep, the largest family construction group in Belgium.
