N36 Roulers-Izegem - Izegem

Entrance/exit complex no. 6 Roeselare/Izegem linking the E403 to the N36 in Izegem has received a thorough facelift. The Roads and Traffic Agency (AWV) was looking to increase significantly the safety of the entrance and exit complex and increase traffic capacity.
The work proper started on 17 March 2014 and lasted for 210 days.

The works took place at two locations:
- Redevelopment of the entrance/exit complex
The previous layout of the complex offered insufficient safety for cyclists. The conflict situation was completely eliminated with the construction of a bicycle tunnel under the exit on the Kortrijk side, and a bike path in the exit loop. To increase traffic capacity, a bypass was built for traffic turning right from the N36 onto the E403, along with additional lanes for traffic turning left at the intersection.

- Bicycle tunnel under the N36 at the Molstraat
At the Molstraat in Izegem, a cycle tunnel was also built, replacing the previous diagonal cycle crossing over the the N36. This cycle tunnel ensures safe cyclist and pedestrian access to and from the new housing area.

Finally Aswebo laid the access road to the car dealership zone and adapted the Ambachtenstraat.

Willemen Infra - the largest Belgian road construction company - came into being on 1 July 2018 as a result of the merger between Aswebo, Aannemingen Van Wellen and the infrastructure department of Kumpen.
