The vacant industrial site of the former Goossens laundry and garage Ludikhuyze in Oud-Berchem is being transformed into a new residential complex with 97 diverse residential units, including the cohousing project The Laundry.

Part of the industrial buildings will make way for new construction volumes. The new volumes on the street side blend seamlessly with the typical architecture of the neighbourhood. Another part of the buildings will be thoroughly renovated. For instance, the former sheds will be transformed into 3 large studio flats and the modernist building from the 1950s will be retained. That will be refurbished into flats.

The chimney - the eye-catcher on the site - will be restored and will become the landmark of De Wastuin. The inner area will be landscaped into a green urban garden that will be semi-public. The garden will act as a thoroughfare between Ferdinand Coosemansstraat and Eikelstraat. The gates to the site will be open during the day but closed at night.
