DOVO explosive ordnance disposal facility - Langemark-Poelkapelle

Description

Franki Construct was responsible for the civil works of the new demining plant in Langemark-Poelkapelle. The Final Completion Civil Work was confirmed by Dynasafe Demil Systems AB in September 2016.

The Belgian demining service DOVO had an installation at its base in Langemark-Poelkapelle, West Flanders, to dismantle leftover war munitions, which apart from explosives also contain other toxic components such as phosphene gas. The installation broke down in August 2012 when a gas bomb exploded inside it.

At the end of 2014, the Ministry of Defence announced that it had awarded the contract for the processing of an installation for the destruction of toxic projectiles to Sweden's Dynasafe Demil Systems AB, a global player in clearing and managing munitions and other hazardous materials.

Dynasafe called on Franki Construct for the design, engineering and construction of the building to house the decommissioning plant. In the new facility, the poison gas and the metal of the projectiles are destroyed together.

The Design & Build assignment also included the installation of all special techniques in the building, even specific parts of the decommissioning plant's process piping, as well as the environmental construction and the actual decommissioning plant. This was first fully assembled in Sweden and, after transport to Belgium, lifted and assembled in the building.

Since 1998 Franki Construct has been part of Willemen Groep, the largest family construction group in Belgium.
