Primary School Virgo Maria - Merksem

Description

Denominational Primary School Virgo Maria is located in Merksem. Its organising body is the Catholic Education Region Merksem.

A new building is being built that will accommodate the nursery school and first year of the primary school. The new building will be located at the site of the existing building because of the strict urban planning requirements (where part of the terrain is marked as a green zone and thus cannot be used for construction), the specific terrain characteristics (elongated with solid rock underground) and the school wanting to create a compact building.

A multipurpose hall will be located in the centre of the building. This will form the heart of the school that will be surrounded by the different class clusters. The clusters are made up of two or three classes for this age group and have a common corridor zone that can be used as a learning area. The building also contains a sleeping area, behaviour support areas, staffroom and head teacher office. The north side of the new building has one floor and the south side has two floors. The roof slopes downwards from south to north such that the classes will be of variable height. Private gardens will be planted on the north side of the building next to the nursery school classes. A large green zone designed as a play area will be laid out on the south side.

Willemen Construct came into being on 1 July 2018 as a result of the merger between Willemen General Contractor and the construction department of Kumpen.
