Fire station De Nekker - Malines

Description

The location of the new fire station "De Nekker" is a site of approximately 18,000 m² next to the Nekker Hall. The newly built property will accommodate the fire brigade as well as the operational services of the city of Mechelen. In fact, the largest part of the property will be taken up by the city warehouse. The fire brigade and operational services will share an entrance and a car park. The fire station will have a five-storey office building and a vehicle hall. The hall will be completely arched over without uprights or columns so there will be no obstructions to a speedy exit. A fitness room and sports hall will be constructed above the vehicle hall. The office building will also contain bedrooms. The design also includes workshops, a practice tower, and a practice terrain. The fire station will have enough space for 30 to 40 staff (fire brigade and administration) that will occupy the building at the same time. Mechelen’s positive climate ambitions ensure the office building will be a so-called AEN (Almost Energy Neutral) building.

Willemen Construct came into being on 1 July 2018 as a result of the merger between Willemen General Contractor and the construction department of Kumpen.
