Elisabeth Center - Antwerp

Prev Next

Who does not know Antwerp's Koningin Elisabeth Hall? Big stars like Bruce Springsteen and Jacques Brel performed here. Willemen starts work in June 2014 on a new top hall of international standing on the same site. The ensemble is also being renamed to become the Elisabeth Center Antwerp.

The Elizabeth Center Antwerp, near the Central Station, is being equipped with the latest facilities and technical equipment. The new concert and congress hall is part of a fully-fledged complex with ultra-modern facilities and can be combined with the existing halls of the ZOO and the zoo itself. The hall will seat between 1,825 and 2,000 guests. Two large auditoria will be added to the congress centre, one of 550 m² on the ground floor and a second of 450 m² on the first floor.

This will make the Elizabeth Center Antwerp the ideal setting for classical music. But rock, pop, world music and musicals will also have their place in the new hall. National and international conferences will be able to welcome their participants in a high quality, contemporary setting. The Elizabeth Center Antwerp will also become the home base for the Royal Flemish Philharmonic, ‘deFilharmonie’.

The design is by British architect Ian Simpson in collaboration with Kirkegaard Associates of Chicago (a world authority in the field of acoustics), and engineering consultancy Bureau Bouwtechniek in Antwerp. THV (temporary joint venture) Elisabeth is responsible for the construction and finishing of the project. This temporary joint venture consists of Willemen General Contractor, Heijmans nv and Verstraete & Vanhecke. The building is being built to the latest sustainability and environmental standards.
