Tram depot Marconi - Brussels

Description

The Marconi depot will be built on a site mainly located on the territory of Uccle and partly on that of Forêt. The site borders on the Flemish-Brabant community Drogenbos and measures 3.7 hectares, of which 2.3 hectares will be covered. The new depot will house 75 trams of the 3000 and 4000 type. The maintenance workshop is going to be able to cope with 15 trams at the same time. In addition, Franki Construct and Kumpen will also build an administration building with a reception hall and recreation room for the tram drivers.

The depot is going to be constructed in the context of the European TramStore21 project, in which the cities Rotterdam, Dijon and Blackpool also take part. The project can count on European financial support and its objective is to promote urban sustainability while respecting the environment. Therefore the building materials will be attuned to the green setting and in the construction much attention will be paid to energy control, waste water and maintenance of the buildings.  Natural light, noise insulation by means of applying the very latest techniques to reduce noise and vibrations and recovery of rain water guarantee an extremely sustainable tram depot.

Franki Construct and Kumpen also built the provisional open-air depot on the site along the Ruisbroeksesteenweg. This provisional depot is in operation now and can house 28 trams (photos). The overall investment amounts to more than 50 million euro.

Willemen Infra - the largest Belgian road construction company - came into being on 1 July 2018 as a result of the merger between Aswebo, Aannemingen Van Wellen and the infrastructure department of Kumpen.
